A Brief History Of NW Smarties

One of the advantages of writing this site is that you get to write things your way, and nobody can do anything about it, but then again who really cares about this section of the site (or most of the others to be honest), some of the members may read it once just to have a go at my lack of English capabilities, but it's not like you or anyone else for that matter is going to get any further than the title at the top of this paragraph, and I cant really blame you there's nothing of earth shattering interest and it's just distracting you either finding the forum , trying to find out when the next meeting date is or looking for granny porn and wondering why this site came up on Google.

Still on with the story.

A Long Time Ago , In A Forum Far Far Away .....

Well as I remember it, its was around the time of Octoberish 2004 when a post on the now defunct " Funkysmart " website, by a member called " Billy's Mum" asked if there was any meetings around the Manchester/ NW area. After brief discussions about a dissolved Liverpool meet and a vague reference to a mythical group called Northern Monkeys, its was decided to start our own to try and get a bit of interest up around the area.
After another few indecisive post about times and dates and place to meet up it was finally decided to meet at 7.00am at Lymm services just off the M6 by Thelwell Viaduct, for a McDonalds and a get to know you session. Friendships were formed , alliances were made, dislikes were established, tips were given, mods were carried out & recipes were exchanged.

Lymm Services was never an ideal place for a regular meet, that is unless you are 17 drive a "Halford's Corsa Special" and your height of impressing the opposite sex is to show than that you can handbrake turn in a public carpark whilst chewing on Chicken McNuggets and explaining how you can now get 500BHP from your 1.2ltr engine just by adding a new filter, fake scoop on the front & a couple of "Turbo" badges. So a new Venue was found.

And Mascrat Manor was found just a few hundred yards down the road, it suited our needs for the next few years. Over the years we have participated in many smart related events, either as a club or as a few individuals we also arrange meets and runs around the NW where all are invited some of our main ones being North Wales Run , The Cat N Fiddle Run, Lake District Run Etc.

Recently after upsetting most waitresses, rearranging furniture month in and month out and sampling most items on the menu , it was decided to try a change of venue. And so we ended up at our current haunt " The Riverside Inn " a little bit more upmarket than our old place but still offering two meals for the price of one so where here to stay, well for a few meeting at least.

Membership shrinks and grows old members sell up and disappear into the eather, some members sell up but still hang around and join us in other modes of transport, it's a very informal kind of affair, but as for this type of car club we have lasted surprisingly well, many spring up an soon fizzel out, now were not saying were the best or look at us were doing it right ! It's just a group of people, some who wouldn't give each other the time of day under difference circumstances coming together for a meet and a few runs, all based around an over priced , under engineered , poorly performing plastic covered vehicle.
